It was 10pm. An hour earlier 8 of us arrived back from visiting a slum. The 3 who stayed behind had put the twins in bed and were making dinner. Some of us joined in the dinner prep. Andrea and Jadie had cooked some yummy chicken. Sam helped them "de-bone" the meat, and cut the stomach into very small pieces, to hide it from those of us who try to avoid eating weird chicken parts...
Carrie and I took over the chapati making. I quickly rolled the dough into various shapes that some-what resembled circles. I had to go fast to keep up with Carrie who was frying 2 chapati at a time on our little stove. It tastes the same regardless of the shape...beside we were making chicken fajitas. Tiffany stepped in at one point making a perfectly round chapati, but that's to be expected from a Mexican who makes tortillas all the time.
Someone had plugged in the speakers and an iPod. So we were jammin to some good old American music like the Beatles. The fun in the kitchen attracted the rest of the team. Yep that's right - all 11 of us in that little kitchen jammin' to American music, while cooking Mexican food, for our dinner at 10pm (typical Indian dinner time).
Suddenly the music died and the kitchen went dark...really, really dark. Was it that the neighbors were annoyed and cut the power line? Nope, the whole neighborhood was dark. Oh the joys of life in India. Someone found a flashlight and lite candles by the stove and on the table where I finished rolling Chapati. Then we ate, cleaned up and went to bed.
