Carnations

3 years ago someone was praying for me and felt God gave them a picture of a pink carnation and God saying He will bring romance to me. They thought that seemed odd - a pink carnation? Why not a red rose? But it made perfect sense to me, because a pink carnation was the first flower I had even been given from a guy.

Once Duane and I realized we liked each other and started dating, I was waiting for confirmation to move forward, which would be Duane giving me a carnation. Of course I couldn't tell Duane that, so I simply said he should probably talk to Jesus about what he needed to do.

Exactly 1 month after our romantic beach walk, we were at a church in Boise. At the end of the service, everyone was given a carnation as a reminder of the sermon. It was such a perfect opportunity! If only there were some way that Duane could have given the carnation to me, but no.

Four days later, Duane & I were on the way to meet his parents. Duane asked if I had my confirmation yet, so I talked to Jesus about it. I felt God saying to me "I said I was going to give you romance, the carnation is from me, the romance is from me, Duane is from me." That was also exactly 1 month after the day we said we liked each other.

My first day in, I was freaking out a little bit. I just abandoned my life in Idaho to come here and be closer to a guy I was dating. So I asked Jesus again for confirmation, like another carnation. I kind of felt like God rolled his eyes at me, shaking His head. Just a few hours later I was given all the confirmation a girl could ask for...

Flowers

The Backpackers D-School is all guys, therefore I did not go hiking with them this week. Something about spending a week in the cold mountains with 5 guys, just does not sound fun...although they are cool guys.

Even though Rebecca (the cook the song leader) and me (the registrar and secretary) did not go hiking with the guys, they are still convinced that we do all the real work, and the guy staff just have fun. So before they left on their hiking trip, they showed their appreciation for us by giving us flowers.
I feel appreciated :)

I've come a long way when it comes to flowers. In general, I tended to better appreciate practical gifts. My friends joke about a man wooing me with gifts of office supplies, but that's so un-romantic. I like the flowers, and I will enjoy them while they last. I don't have a vase here in Idaho, so Carrie split the flowers into 2 of her little vases, so we can enjoy the beautiful flowers on my desk at work, and at our house.
