We were volunteering at the "Dream Center" in Salt Lake when I got the phone call that our students from Europe were denied visas to India. Why? Because someone changed the rules of what is required to get visas.
So Josiah and I spent the next couple days figuring out what to do. The easiest solution would be to re-apply in the USA, but we risk being rejected again, and not having visas in time to go to India. I can sum up last Friday with: what is the point of making phone calls during business hours, if you never get to talk to a person anyway?
Saturday was spent sleeping in the van as we drove home, and then I got to meet the new baby! He was born the day after the D-school left on the Road-Trip. If had come a day sooner, I would have been home to watch the twins, instead of calling a babysitter in the middle of the night. But it worked out well for their family to have 2 weeks with the new baby, while the D-School was away. This week was more successful for the visas. We contacted another school leader who gave us the name of who to talk to at the visa office. This lady was very helpful! Then the girls filled out visa applications for the 3rd time, and today we put them in the mail.
Of course, the post office is a whole 'nother story of what happens when a sleep deprived Becky (who let a 3 year old crawl in bed with me at 1am), takes two toddlers on a long, slow walk in the snow, and then lets them run around the post office while I paid for postage, etc. I was complemented on my patience. But I kind of felt like a zombie with a lack of ability to multi-task, therefore I ignored the crazy kids...yeah, I should probably not be a parent any time soon...but it is ok that I've been spoiling the twins, because they have 2 aunties coming to visit, so they can each snuggle a kid at whatever hour of the night they wake up...
