1 Week

Today I "celebrate" 1 week alone in India, and I even have the day off.

Life hasn't been that bad. Although I have hives on my ankles now too...I think it's from the super-strong Indian acid, used to clean things. Yesterday at Life Connection, I "mopped" the floor. That is soooo much fun!!! Fill a bucket with water and acid and smelly bug-killer stuff (mosquitoes are very bad here - I hope I don't get malaria). Then throw the water on the floor, and sweep/scrub with a whisk-like "broom". Then squeegee it all to the corner with the drain, and it dries quite nicely. It's very fun indeed, but the deadly chemicals splash on my feet.

Anyway, in spite of the hives, I slept well last night, and woke up at 7am. A couple of my roommates get up early (5:30am) to go to Mass at "The Mother House" (Mother Theresa's house). They also go to bed early (9pm). The guest house is always so quiet and in the evenings, my roommates and I talk or read. It's quite nice and relaxing and peaceful.
This morning after breakfast I sat out in the lawn and had a wonderful quiet time. Some of the other girls came outside too and sat on benches or on the porch to read. Reminded me of morning quiet times in Idaho. This place has such a homey feel. I rather much like it, although I fear I shall end up with an accent that is an odd combination of Indian and British, thanks to all the forgeiners here. One of my roommates is leaving today...I barely met her. But she is leaving behind some lightweight fast-drying pants! So I claimed them :) and then hemmed them. I was getting rather tired of Indian pants. Unfortunately, my khaki's are a little tight at the moment, but they will fit better after my "Kolkota diet." It's hot and humid and therefore sweaty, so I drink lots of water. Breakfast is included with the cost of my room, lunch I eat at the ministry, and dinner is the diet part - bread, jam, fruit and YOGURT!!! That's right people, I found a store which sells real yogurt! Yes, life is good...
