Injuries and Illnesses

Since last Sunday the illnesses and injures are as follows:

Lacey got her toenail bent way back. It was painful and bleeding. Laura bandaged it.

One of the girls threw up all night and all day. We got an anti-vomitting shot for her. Last time this happened it was Tommy who needed the shot. They tried to get me to do it, since I'm an EMT, But I am not trained nor authorized to do anything involving needles. And the shot was in the butt, and that's just wrong. So Troy gave Tommy the shot because, I quote: "Troy had done this before with sheep." Comforting, I know, but aparently it hardly hurt and Tommy got better. Anyway, due to the fact that the sick girl trusts me and I am a girl, I got to give her the shot. Lacey coached us, told us to breath and counted to 3 for us. It was painful, but she stopped puking.

The next night another girl was sick. This caused a panic as we realized it was contagious. The girl who got sick is super hard-core and never gets sick, so this could happen to any of us! She was also a victim of a shot by Becky. You'd think I would have been less nervous the 2nd time, but I wasn't. Once again, it hurt (she said it was the most painful shot she ever had), but it worked.

I remembered that back when I was a Senior at Elim, Darryl told me I should learn to give injections...I should have listened...

Saturday - We drove 3 hours to some "nearby" city, and had lunch and talked to the Father for that city. One the way home Alissa threw up out the window. Sometimes we were able to convice the driver to pull over. None-the-less there was vomit all over that side of the van, and the outside of Sarah's window (she was sitting behind Alissa).

As we arrived in K-Town, traffic was bad, and cars were passing within inches of our vehical, so we didn't let Alissa stick her head out the window, instead we gave her a bag. Alissa, Lacey, Tommy, and our host were dropped off at the Doctor's office and then sent up-stairs to the "hospital" which was actully called a "nursing home."

I felt like a horrible sister for not going with them, but my stomach was on edge, and now my nerves were fried too, so I just wanted to go home. I didn't sleep much, and was up on the roof in the middle of the night,  talking to James, my adopted chota bayah (little brother), who also couldn't sleep.

Alissa was admitted in the hospital/nursing home overnight and Lacey stayed with her. Alissa was very dehydrated and her digestive system was messed up. They gave her an IV and got the needdle in on the 4-5 try (that's really good for her). She received 7-8 bags of liquid through the IV (I should know the correct words for these things, but I can't think of them). She came home Sunday evening and is doing much better. In fact she is here with me checking her e-mail.

Lacey and Alissa now have some crazy funny stories of things that happen in Indian hospitals. The security gaurd visited them and showed Tommy his gun and Tommy had a great time hanging out with him. At one point they had 4 random workers in their room watching a cricket game on their TV. And of course before Alissa could come home someone wanted a picture of her + Lacey. The Indians will probably never forget the day the white girls were at the hospital...
