Ring Barer...Pillows?

Why a pillow? Where did this tradition come from? Who would actually put real rings on a pillow and trust a small boy to deliver them safely?

Why would I spend $25+ on a silly little pillow, just so a cute little boy can carry it down the isle without real rings on it? What do people do with the pillow after the wedding? I haven't seen any little white pillows sitting decoratively around anyone's houses.

On a personal note: would a white pillow in the hands of a 18 month old, even survive my out-door wedding and still be white? Would I even care if it didn't?

These are the questions I must ask myself as I shop for wedding stuff.

Deep, profound questions.

But fear not, me, of all people, will have kids in my wedding, because I love 'em and they are adorable and funny, and who knows what they might do to make the ceremony that much more entertaining. If nothing else, they are there for the cute factor. So I do have a ring barer, but no pillow...but I did buy a basket for the flower girl, even though her family is in Korea waiting for visas to get back to the states, hopefully before the wedding...that's a big maybe...

Usually the rings are tied on to the pillow securely. But there's nothing wrong with doing something different and creative, which I'm sure you'll think of.

Gordon was the ring bearer for my sister's wedding and, yeah it's a nice way to include a young male in the family in a wedding. I had hand crocheted and sewn her pillow, but a small pillow of any color would do; just tack on a 10 cent piece of ribbon and tie on some cracker-jack rings! No need to enrich over-priced bridal shops!
