Picking the wedding party:
Becky: Duane, how many best friends do you have, that you want to be in the wedding?
Duane: 4 for sure
Becky: Ok then, I will have 4 bridesmaids...what if I want 5?
Duane: We can do that too...
Picking my dress:
I found a sweet hippie dress that's white with a red blouse, which looks sort of Indian. But I don't look good in red...I don't even like red except that it's the color of Indian wedding dresses...I'm also not a big fan of annoyingly poofy dresses...nor do I want to order one on-line without first trying it on...
In December, Duane & I checked out our local hippie shops. You know, the Asian import stores run by nice Indian families who play obnoxious Hindi music, and have idols on the shelf next to the burning incense. They have all the same things you can buy in the Parha Gange in Delhi, only for $50 instead of $5.
At the first store I couldn't find any white dresses, so I asked the shop-keeper, "oh no, it is not the season for white dresses," she said with a head bobble, "we will have them here later. Later, when it is the season." When exactly that will be, we don't know...wow, I really do feel like I'm in India...
At the next store I did find a white dress which I really liked, but it was definitely way to big, "it's no problem" said the store-owner, pointing to the 2 sewing machines behind the counter, "I can fix it. I will take it in here, here, here." Yeah, it might be easier just to start from scratch, and I think I'd rather buy a dress which actually fits without bazillions of alterations...if only I were in India...
On my family's Christmas cruise, I found a cool white peasent-style dress. Sweet! I'm done shopping for dresses...
What will everyone else wear?
We know we want to be barefoot for our wedding, or maybe wear flip-flops (if there's snow on the ground or really muddy). Duane was in a wedding where the guys wore jeans and white shirts, which sounds good to me, except kurtas (Indian men's shirts).
I thought lavender hippie dresses would look good with the guy's jeans.
Cell phone: ring, ring ...long phone number, must be from the team in India!!
Chris: we're at the market in Delhi and can't find solid purple dresses, but we found some cool multi-colored ones that are mostly purple.
Becky: Sounds good to me!!
Today the bridesmaids hippie dresses were freshly imported from India. Thanks Carrie & Chris!!! I'm probably going to be jealous of their dresses, because white is so boring...
