The Mailing...

To start with, I find it really weird that at this week's staff meeting, other than Leslsey, it was all people were here in Idaho when I arrived: the base director, and the couple who staffed my DTS/outreach. Yes, there are only 5 staff out of 20 currently in town...most aren't even in the country...

Monday our 1600+ freshly printed newsletters arrived, and the few of us went to work on it right away. Putting the inserts in it, sticking to address labels on, and putting the little stickys on the sides to keep the inserts from falling out.

By some miracle the labels had printed with very little difficulty, but printing the 1/2 page inserts was a different story. I had started that ordeal last Thursday. First, my computer wouldn't tell the printer to print multiple copies, and there was no way I was going to hit "print" 800 times. So I used the base desktop...the printer wasn't in the mood to do double-sided either, but finally it started behaving. 450 pages later, the printer ran out of blue toner...and we had no more. So I went over to the Church to print the rest...after 100 pages, they were out of pink toner, and there wasn't anyone there who knew where to find the refill...

So I finished printing the last 250 on Monday. I figured out that the printer prints at the rate of 200 double-sided pages per hour. So I told it to print, thinking I would come back in a hour and check on it. Meanwhile back at the office, we were making great progress on the newsletter.
When I went back to the church office, it was locked up for the day...so I called a friend with a key to let me in. The printer had stopped after 85 copies, because it ran out of blue toner. Since I now knew where the toner was hidden, I figured out how to change it, and told the printer to keep printing...that evening I came back for Youth Group and collected th rest of the printing...

Today we finished it up and took it to the post office... mission accomplished...now I can leave! But I'm sticking around for the Progressive Dinner this weekend...and flying out a week from today :)
