Questions Raised...

I've been in Costa Rica for over a week now, learning about working with Children At Risk.

I say I want to work specifically with children, especially orphans, but does that really mean just starting another orphanage? In class we talked about the Father’s ideal, for children to be in a family. If the best solution really is to keep kids in families, then what is my role? Is it just to encourage and support the families?

What about the orphans, street kids, or families where a child is the head of the household? Is the best solution to find a family for them, and not try to be a mama to every kid I meet. The fact is, I can’ take in every kid anyway. It would be better to multiply the results by encouraging others to take in kids.

Regardless, I still plan to adopt a couple kids myself. I do want kids of my own (and hopefully will have some someday), but yet it seems crazy to add more kids to this world, when there are already so many in need of a family.
