I have lots to say, and even more to do, so the saying part is less important...therefore I will try to keep this short...
Tuesday I flew home from PA. My last flight (Denver - Boise) was overbooked and I was so close to getting a free round-trip ticket and a later flight. Instead I managed to get demoted to standby, and still got on my original flight, which ended up being delayed 1 hour. Then we sat on the tarmac for another hour due to mechanical problems...that's comforting...
In Boise Steve picked me up at the airport and we went grocery shopping. I re-stocked on yogurt, applesauce, and V8 juice...the only things that seem worth eating as my digestive system is still recovering from the parasites....this way even if I do starve to death, at least I'll be healthy...sort of...
We got to Cascade, and in record time and huge amount of messiness, I un-packed, re-packed, and carried all my stuff out to the truck. The front porch light was out, and it was now close to 11pm, and therefore quite dark outside, so I missed a step and rolled my ankle. Ouchy!
For the half hour drive to the camp, I had the privilege of driving the crappy ghetto truck and following Steve's car. Fortunately, I stayed awake for the drive, due to the pain in my ankle, the cold wind from the open window, and the excited windy roads, which we were probably driving faster than my parents would consider safe...the good news is, I got to bed before midnight (that's 2am, NY time).
Fire Camp is renting our camp this week, so we're cooking for them. Breakfast duty started at 5:30 am...so today after breakfast I took a nap from 7:30-8am...it's really confusing to wake up from at nap at that time of day...is it lunch time yet? Or is it really tomorrow now?
I don't remember much about yesterday...I limped around (but my ankle doesn't hurt today) we cooked lots of food and fed the hungry fire fighters in training. As always, with us mature adults, everything turns into a competition - like who can finish making 40 sandwiches first. It's usually guys against girls, because we're outnumbered, and therefore must stick together...
This afternoon I get to go home fore real!! There's a lot of work I need to catch up on at the office after being away for 3 weeks...although my incredibly persuasive brain-washing friends tried to convince me to go camping this weekend, which would force me to procrastinate on working, and maybe actually relax...it is a good alternative to being home alone...
I have been the only girl here since I came back from India, so it would be fun to spend time with the other girls!! There are 5 of us girls (summer staff) vrs more guys than I care to count. Although after spending the last couple days in cabins in the woods in the middle of nowhere, being damp and cold, why would we want to stay in a tent in the woods instead? So us girls are considering rebelling and having a girl's weekend in town, which sounds way more fun and relaxing, we just haven't told the guys yet, because they'll panic (who will cook for them?) and try to brain-wash us into going...so we'll see what happens...
