Free Set

Today I got to sleep in till 7:20. It's pretty sad when you call that sleeping in. Over the weekend I had made up for my lack of sleep, so Monday I woke up with the sun - at 5:30am. So I decided to go visit Mass. It was a relaxing way to start the day - rather than my usual: sleep in till the last minute, be dressed, eat breakfast and be on my way within 15 mins of rolling out of bed. It's not good to start the day off running like that...Mass was not in English, so I have no idea what was going on...

Usually I leave for Life Connection by 7:20, but today I didn't need to leave till 9:30. I went to FreeSet with my new friends, an outreach team who are staying at the guest house.

FreeSet is in the Red Light district. There are over 100 women who work there, making bags and t-shirts, which are then shipped overseas and sold. They use organic matierals, and it's all fair-trade. It gives the women a job to do rather than be prostitutes. I helped in the T-shirt room, cutting out material to be sewn. It was a nice relaxing way to spend the day.

Then we took the Metro home. I'm glad I didn't have to do that on my own...I think I've tried every form of transportation in this city - bus, taxi, auto-rickshaw, bike-rickshaw, the local train, metro, and of course walking!!! We get so sweaty and gross just existing, so we might as well exercise too while we're at it.

I was told that the temperature was about 90 degrees today...plus humidity, and the sun reflecting off hot pavement, not to mention the heat coming off all the cars and buses. They say it doesn't usually get this hot here till mid-March...I guess India is in for a record hot summer. I am so thankful for fans right now...and water. I drank a 16 oz water bottle within 1 hour of waking up...I'm starting to look foward to returning to snowy Idaho...crazy...
