Back in November, we had some team time right before we left for India. During that time a couple of teammates gave me something from the Word, “forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forward to those things which are ahead.” The other verse was – the story of the man who found a treasure in a field and went home and sold everything in order to buy that field.
I had thought these were just for my time in India, as I forgot about the past and just focused on the treasure of living and serving in India. As well as asking the Father what He wanted me to do after India.
I lived in India for 3 months and pretty much all I had was my camera, Bible, a couple books, blankets, towel, shower stuff, and clothes - sweat pants, a T-shirt, Pjs, 3 Indian shirts and a pair of ghetto Indian pants. Arriving home, I asked myself “why, on earth, do I own so much stuff?” I could probably go 2 months without needing to do laundry. However, I do have a lot of clothing that I never wear. So why do I have it?
So I am realizing those Words are also for now. I’m home, but I’m putting what is past behind me and moving on with my life, as well as selling almost everything (or giving it away). In this past month I’ve gotten rid of a lot of stuff that I don’t need and will never use. My dresser is only half full and my room is getting more and more empty, and it’s freeing.
I got rid of the things I don’t need, and the things I do need I sent with a friend who is driving out to Idaho. As it gets closer to the time to move, I’m narrowing it down to just what I can take on the airplane (although I’ll probably pay to take a 2nd check-in bag). It’s quite freeing to literally get rid of a lot of the baggage that I’ve been carrying around.
